Struggling for cash yet still craving for tunes? Then you might want to give the FreePlay option offered by music streaming service MOG a try. It's basically a way to earn music by referring friends to the service or exploring the MOG site.
MOG is a solid streaming service with over 11 million songs in its collection, offers a great browser-based interface (as well as some solid apps), fantastic social networking integration and an "intelligent" radio feature. It's among the music services I recommend?? especially to those who need some guidance in order to discover new artists.
The service normally costs $4.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming ??or $9.99/month if you want to add support for your mobile devices?? but you can now get most of its features for free. By doing a little bit of work.
The trick is to use MOG's new FreePlay option. This new version of the service offers you a "virtual gas tank" filled up with ad-supported tunes. This gas tank doesn't refill magically at the end of a certain time period or anything similar, but MOG offers several ways for you to earn more music.
You can refer friends to the service, create playlists, share music with other users, promote MOG on your favorite social networks, and so on?? all in exchange for more listening time.
In theory, this means that you might never run out of music?? as long as you're willing to roll up your sleeves regularly?? but I have a hunch that most people will tire of shamelessly promoting MOG or constantly worrying that they're running low on sound quickly. At that point though, it is likely that they'll already be hooked on MOG's features and simply opt to shell out the cash needed for one of the paid versions.
Either way though, the FreePlay option is a neat way to explore a solid music streaming service and enjoy some freebie tunes for a while.
