Residents : Zone Change Would Threaten Neighborhood
By James Lomuscio
While Westport teardowns are nothing new, and some houses with barely a whimper go the way of the wrecking ball, the possibility of two 19th century Victorians being razed has one neighborhood up in arms.
Neighbors say that plans to level the two-and-a-half story houses at 14 and 20 Lincoln St. and to replace them with a parking lot will gut their neighborhood.
Their attorney also says it would deplete the town?s moderate income housing stock and violates the Town Plan of Conservation and Development.
The properties? owner seeks a zone change, transforming the area from a residential A zone to an Restricted Office Retail District (RORD), one that allows commercial use in a residential zone.
